Other budget explanation
Schedule Constraints: Difficulty obtaining sufficient numbers of early life stages, young of the year or yearling juvenile sturgeon at all sites for nutritional analysis during the initial year may cause delays of some of those analyses until subsequent years.
Reviews and recommendations
This information was not provided on the original proposals, but was generated during the review process.
Recommendation:
Date:

Comment:
Criteria 1: Technical Criteria - Incomplete: The basic premise of the proposal is that there may be differences in the nutritional status between sturgeon below the impoundments and those confined above. However, the proposal does not clearly establish the link between impoundment and the parameters they propose to study - deficiencies in iodine and selenium.
Criteria 2: Objectives Criteria - Incomplete: The proposal uses information from domestic vertebrates and other species of fish, but does not adequately demonstrate with sufficient evidence the likelihood of demonstrating nutritional deficiencies.
Criteria 3: Milestones Criteria - Yes
Criteria 4: Resources Criteria - Yes

Comment:
Notwithstanding the adequate evaluation, ISRP reviewers note a major shortcoming is that the study does not describe the relationship between nutrient availability and salmonid carcasses, nor does it compare hatchery and wild fish. The reviewers also note that laboratory results with young fish may not readily transfer to field situations.
